Water Leak Detection Fort Worth
A water leak can be a very serious issue by causing a great deal of property damage and even high water bills. The EPA reports that the average home loses around 14% (27 gallons of water per day which can add thousands to your water bill annually. Signs of a water leak include constant hearing water running even when everything is turned off, seeing water pool around the house or yard and of course receiving high water bills.
Water leaks can be caused by a number of reasons, including frost heave, or faulty old pipes. They can occur under your driveway, the cement pad in the yard, under your lawn or even under your pool. Anywhere there are pipes that move water around, you can find leaks. The process to find leaks differ depending on what is over the pipes. For cement pads, look for cracks in the pavement, this works for pool leaks as well. If you have an in-ground sprinkler system keep an eye out for pools of water even when the system is turned off.
Leaks can also happen underneath your flooring if you've had heated floors, radiant heat. A telltale sign that you have a leak in your heated floors is if you have one spot on your floor that's warmer than the rest. Be sure to keep your heated floors on during the winter, especially if the radiant heat is the only way the room is being kept warm. Otherwise, the water in the flooring can freeze the only way to ensure this does not happen is by draining the water from the pipes.
Water leaks can also occur in the ceiling or floors if you have outdoor taps. Be sure to turn your outdoor taps off before winter, and/or drain them if necessary. As the water freezes inside the pipes, it will expand and cause cracks; this can happen right at the faucet itself, or further within the floors of your home. Always ensure that there's enough insulation around the pipe, and that the hoses are detached during winter.
